When most people think of Cambodia, rarely do they think of white sandy beaches or tropical islands, but maybe that's what makes it incredible once you discover them! Koh Rong Sanloem is a small tropical island (not to be confused with Koh Rong, it's touristy, party focused sister island) which lies 25.3km off the Cambodia mainland in the Gulf of Thailand. Whilst there are a number of ferry companies that go there, it is still relatively remote, so make sure you plan carefully and know your boat times, which are not as frequent as they may first appear. There are only a handful of resorts, ranging from backpacker hostels to luxury villas. Unless you stay somewhere like M'Pay Bay, then you're unlikely to see anything outside your resort, so choose wisely depending on what you want. We stayed at Mad Monkey, which was a great vibe, with everyone there to just have a good time. If you're traveling solo, this is probably your best bet, it is by no means luxury, but a great place to meet people. The brilliant thing about the island is that you're disconnected from the world. No WiFi and limited phone coverage means you can switch off. Depending on how active you want to be, you can do jungle hikes, snorkel or dive, or just simply chill on the beach...bliss!
