Notably the backdrop to a New York Christmas is the Rockefeller Tree, located in the infamous Rockefeller Plaza situated just above the ice skating rink. Two years later Rockefeller Center decided to make the tree a yearly tradition. Every year a careful selection process is undertaken, this years tree made headlines before being lit when an owl was found as a stowaway. The owl was appropriately given the name Rockefeller. Approximately, 125 million people visit the Rockefeller Tree each year.
Many of the landmark shops near Rockefeller Center put up outdoor Christmas Window/Light displays that are a can’t be missed attraction. Fan favorite, the Saks Fifth Avenue display is set to a theme every year and plays continuously around the clock. Other nearby stores such as Bloomingdales, Cartier (as pictured above) and Macys also put on beautiful outdoor light up displays that can’t be missed.
Ice skating at the Rockerfeller Center during the day is another must-do New York Christmas item. It is best to make reservations and get there early.
Another New York holiday staple are the Radio City Rockettes, which perform their yearly Christmas Spectacular throughout the month of December at the Radio City Music Hall (also located in Rockefeller Center).
